Treasurer Kennedy Says Electronic Report Saves Taxpayers Thousands

BATON ROUGE, LA The Louisiana Department of the Treasury has published its annual report on the Internet this year, saving taxpayers close to $5,000 in printing and mailing costs.

Were always looking for new ways to save the state money, and in this case, technology let us do just that, said Treasurer Kennedy. Five thousand dollars may not seem like a whole lot when the state’s trying to balance a multi-billion dollar budget, but believe me, every little bit counts.

The Treasurys 2000 Annual Summary on the Financial Condition of the State of Louisiana provides statistics about Louisianas economy, debt picture, budget, spending, credit rating and investments. It also includes information on the performance and functions of departmental programs and divisions.

Publishing our annual report on the Internet is just one way we are using our Web site to provide better services to our customers at a lower cost, said Treasurer Kennedy. In the near future, you will be able to file a claim for unclaimed property and use your credit card to pay for certain state services online. Were also developing an electronic auction house where investors can bid on certificates of deposits on the Web.
