BATON ROUGE, La. – State Treasurer John Kennedy served as a substitute teacher last week at Andrew Jackson Middle School in Chalmette.

“I try to substitute teach several times a year,” said Treasurer Kennedy. “It’s tough to be a teacher. Every elected official should spend time in front of a classroom of students. If you’re shaping education policy, you need to substitute teach in order to fully understand the challenges facing both our teachers and our students.” Treasurer Kennedy taught social studies to eighth graders at Andrew Jackson Middle School. Later this week, he’ll substitute teach in Houma. “I couldn’t have asked for a better bunch of kids than the ones I taught at Andrew Jackson Middle School,” said Treasurer Kennedy. “They were bright and attentive. I was honored to spend part of the day with them.”
