BATON ROUGE, LA – State Treasurer John Kennedy was named vice chairman of the Louisiana Interim Emergency Board at its first meeting of the new administration.

The board consists of the Governor, Lieutenant Governor, State Treasurer, Senate President, Speaker of the House, Chairman of the Senate Finance Committee and Chairman of the House Appropriations Committee.

Kennedy assumed the job of State Treasurer in January. He was elected by an unanimous vote to the IEB post, while Lt. Governor Kathleen Blanco was named chairman.

The IEB reviews requests for emergency funding and deficit spending, which are not anticipated and/or addressed by the State Legislature. Requests are usually limited to state-sponsored programs as they relate to nonrecurring expenses, but may include requests resulting from natural disaster situations.

Kennedy serves on various state administrative boards and commissions.
